Coffee shops, food trucks & counter service
In quick service, every second at the counter is money walking away. You need a system that scans, tips, and prints in one motion — and keeps running when the venue Wi-Fi flakes at peak. Xray configures QSR accounts so the line moves at the speed of the customer, not the speed of the terminal.
Why generic processing fails Quick Service.
Customers walk when the line is six deep
Slow swipes, fumbled tip prompts, and "please insert card again" cost you the order behind the order.
Tips that no one asks for
Default 0% on the screen is leaving thousands on the table. The right prompt converts.
Venue Wi-Fi that dies at peak
Concert lots, festivals, food halls — the terminal that won't connect costs you 40% of revenue for an hour.
Online ordering you don't own
DoorDash takes 30%. You need a "skip the line" flow on YOUR domain.
What Xray actually configures for Quick Service.
Single-tap tap-to-pay flow
Total → tap → tip selection → done. No "insert" detour, no swipe fallback unless the chip fails three times.
Smart tip presets that convert
We A/B-test 15%/20%/25% vs $1/$2/$3 vs round-up — and tune to what works for your average ticket.
Offline mode that doesn't skip a transaction
Clover and Valor terminals queue transactions locally and post when reconnected — no manual re-entry.
Branded online ordering on your domain
Order-ahead at order.yourshop.com with mobile pay, scheduled pickup, and direct-to-KDS — no marketplace cut.

What it looks like on a Tuesday.
Saturday morning rush at a busy coffee shop: barista hits four items on Clover Flex, hands it forward, customer taps with Apple Pay, selects 20% tip, gets an SMS receipt — total time: 11 seconds. Drive-thru lane runs a second Flex with the same SKUs. By 10 AM, mobile orders are stacking up in the KDS from the order-ahead site. Closing shift reconciles in two minutes — Clover handles the batch, tips, and bank deposit automatically.
Why generic processors fall short.
Generic processors price QSR like full-service restaurants — but QSR averages $12, not $48. Per-transaction fees that don't scale eat your margin. Worse: most "flat-rate" plans hide a $0.10-per-transaction fee that costs a coffee shop 80 cents per dollar of revenue. Xray prices QSR on interchange-plus, where the $0.10 becomes $0.04 and the percentage drops with volume.
The actual math.
A coffee shop doing $400K/year on a flat-rate "2.6% + $0.10" plan pays about $14,000 in fees PLUS gives up the $0.10 on every $4.50 latte (4,000+ transactions/month means $4,800/year just in flat fees). We move you to interchange-plus and save typically $3-5K/year on a $400K business — plus the new tip prompts add real money to your staff.
Quick Service questions, straight answers.
Does the terminal work without internet?
Yes — Clover and Valor terminals have offline mode that queues transactions locally and posts them when reconnected. No customer ever sees a decline.
Can I run a coffee subscription?
Yes — recurring billing is included. Sell a "12 coffees a month for $39" plan, charge automatically, redeem at the counter.
What about food trucks with no fixed location?
Clover Flex with 4G LTE works anywhere with cell service. Battery lasts a full shift on one charge.
Will I get tips?
The default tip prompt on our terminals converts 65-78% of customers to tip — typically 15-18%. We tune the presets based on your average ticket.
